(This book is an English version of the book with the same title ,SHARE ASTRO, written in Marathi and published in August 2009. The Gujarati and Hindi translations of the same book are also available now.)
The aim of this book, as suggested by the title of the book, is to incorporate the precise Vedic- Astrology-based guidelines (within the scope of the existing guidelines based on certain principles of economics and finance) for the benefit of any person ( an experienced investor or a novice) who is interested in investing his/her hard-earned money in the share/stock market for profitability-- referred to as Dhan-Labh in Sanskrit.
The motivation for writing this book is described below briefly.
The study of investment strategies that are applicable to the share/stock market is basically a complex subject matter due to various reasons, such as the highly nonlinear dynamic nature of the movements in the share prices that leads to a volatile situation for investment by the common person in the share market. Obviously, any investor, either experienced in such trading or a new entrant, always has a number of doubts and anxieties related to making the appropriate decisions in view of assured profitability through such investments in the long term. The guidelines for such investments based on theories in economics and finance are discussed by many experts and are available in related literature. The quantitative studies of different share markets in the world lead to the mathematical and statistical models that provide the methods for predicting the prices of the shares. Throughout the world, predicting the share market behavior with high precision is considered to be a challenging problem. In particular, due to the constantly changing local volatile behavior of the share prices during a given time period in terms of day/hour/minute/seconds, such models are either of limited use (in many cases of no use) to a common person, who is watching the changing share prices on a TV screen, and who keeps wondering – what is coming next?
But, definitive and quick action is needed instead of just keep guessing and wondering.
What action should I take, now, and at this moment?
This is the dilemma that every investor in the share market is facing almost constantly. If we try to analyze such dilemma, we can easily see that there are three immediate questions that need to be answered for taking any action to get out of this dilemma. These three questions are:
• Which share/stock should I buy/sell?
• When should I buy/sell the share/stock?
• Why should I buy/sell such share/stock now and now only?
I refer to these three questions as the three W’s in share market trading or the WWW- dilemma.
A solution to this dilemma ( a common person is looking for) is addressed in this book through certain basic elements of Vedic astrology. As an astrological solution to this dilemma, a number of guidelines are discussed in this book. To be consistent with the above ‘WWW’ description of this dilemma, these guidelines will be referred to as the “WWW guidelines” as we proceed through this book.
Some readers might have a curiosity or an anxiety as to why to use the astrology for solving the above WWW dilemma.
Perhaps, for such readers, the following quote might be useful in overcoming their anxiety.
“It’s human nature to find patterns where there are none and to find skill where luck is a more likely explanation.” -Bernstein, William.
Until we discuss the role of Vedic astrology in share market trading, the readers will have to be contented with this quote by Bernstein, an American financial theorist.
To reduce the effect of the clutter ( technical term: “the white noise”) in the prices of individual shares ( this clutter makes the decision process complicated in day –to- day share market dealings), the economists have devised what are known as the index numbers that describe the share market situation at a given time in a comprehensive ( a sort of summarized) manner. For example, SENSEX (Bombay Stock Exchange (B.S.E.)), Dow Jones Indices, NASDAQ-100, S&P-500 (New York Stock Exchange),NIKKEI (Tokyo,) etc. are some of the well known indices. Therefore, in this book, we have discussed the movements of the SENSEX index with reference to the movements of the planets in our solar system as an obvious step towards the formulation of our guidelines. Thus, if we claim that these guidelines are useful in decision making, then it will be a prudent statement by any standard.
Vedic astrology, a well respected subject area throughout the world, is regarded as an ancient science for predicting the future .It is based on the observed association between the movements of the planets (grahas) and constellations (nakshatras), and the events happening during the life-times of human beings. There were no share markets when the basic elements of vedic astrology were formulated by our forefathers. But, the other financial and trading activities were taking place throughout the historic times and hence, the astrologers were quite aware of the fact that
“ Time is the essence of the contract.”
Therefore, they had made all efforts to measure time as precisely as they could and had formulated guidelines known as the yogas (for taking the actions by the humans at precise timings to facilitate the implementation of the statements in the above quotes in all respects). For example, whether the person is pursuing a social contract such as marriage or a financial deal he/she used the yogas as guidelines for the successful outcome from his/her dealings These yogas are defined for the events of common interest, at both micro and macro scales, in terms of the movements of the planets in time and space.
Share and stock market trading is a financial contract. Therefore, it goes without saying that investigating the concept of yogas for related investments through the buying and selling of the shares is a necessity for the dhan-labh yoga in the horoscope of any person. This is exactly what we propose to do throughout this book. In particular, our guidelines are based on the same principles of yogas that will be spelled out as precisely as possible on the time scale –day/hour/minutes/seconds- for the share market transactions and tailored (customized) for the benefit of an individual investor. The readers should remember that the profitability through the trading of shares/stocks is a two-fold phenomenon, even in an astrology context;namely, the astrological considerations of the share market as a whole and the astrology of the individual who is participating in such trading. Further, in this book, to keep in view the quantitative aspects of our guidelines (actual values of the shares) along with the qualitative aspects (the categorization of yogas based on vedic astrology), the retrospective study of the daily SENSEX index (for the years 1995-2007) is included here.
The organization of this book is as follows:
For the convenience of the readers, this book – SHARE ASTRO- is divided into six parts as described below:
PARTS I and II. The general information about the share market and the discussion of the elements of vedic astrology that are relevant to share market trading.
PART III. The retrospective study of the daily SENSEX (B.S.E.) index for the period 1995-2007 for studying the association between the movements in this index and the movements of the planets (grahas) and constellations (nakshatras) within the framework of vedic astrology. In this part, we have also provided the statistical analysis for establishing the relationship between the movements in the share prices (SENSEX index) and the movements of the planets. We note that this analysis is presented at an elementary level to avoid un-necessary technical discussion.
PART IV. This is one of the main parts of the book. It consists of:
The study of the effects of the conjunction of Saturn and Mars on the share market during the last 20 years (retrospective study) for formulating some useful guidelines for investing in share market.
Micro and Macro Analysis of the daily SENSEX index from the starting time to the closing time of the share market in relation to the movements of the planets.
A brief introduction to the famous Krishnamurthy Padhati (KP), including the planet movements-based dasha system (subdivisions and sub-sub-divisions of the time duration attributed to the respective nine planets referred to as nava-grahas).
A discussion of the concordance and discordance between the horoscope of an investor and the horoscope of the share market at a given time.
The guidelines based on the horoscope (natal chart) of an individual for making the decisions for investing in the share markets for profitability (dhan-labh).
A brief discussion of numerology in the share market.
In PART V, number of useful guidelines are introduced. These should be useful for any investor as well as to those who are interested in taking this subject area in more details.
The effort has been made to provide the guidelines in a user-friendly manner b keeping the technical discussion at an elementary level based on the information provided in PART I about certain basics or astrology. The ultimate objective of this part is : The reader should be able to look at his/her horoscope, and make the educated guess regarding his/her opportunities for making profits in the share/stock market. This book will be also useful to those who wish the consult and discuss with the experts , if the need arises, in view of making the final decision related to their above mentioned opportunities.
In PART VI , some useful tables are included for the curious readers.
Readers who are not familiar with the basics of vedic astrology are advised to read PART I. This will be particularly helpful for gaining familiarity with the terminology that is used in PART IV and PART V, and also for following the logic used by the author in formulating the guidelines that should be used for all practical purposes. The ultimate goal of this book (and in particular PART V) is to develop confidence and self-reliance in the prospective share market investors while making decisions.
To facilitate the investors one-step further, the author is in the process of developing a user- friendly computer software (based on certain elements of Artificial Intelligence) that will be useful for charting your path to success through the vast financial ocean of share market investments. However, one should remember that ultimate success depends on your skill in interpreting the guidelines. And, to acquire such skill you will have to be patient and should develop the habit of reading between the lines rather than just trying to follow the guidelines blindly.
The note of caution for the readers:
It is a known fact that the ultimate objective underlying any science is seeking the truth. Unfortunately, the eternal truth underlying any phenomenon in this universe is an unknown entity .Therefore, all the theories in any science are subject to a degree of uncertainly, however small it may be. The science of vedic astrology is not an exception. Therefore, the readers are expected to constantly remember this fact while reading or using this book. The knowledge that you will acquire by reading this book should be considered as one additional favorable factor in your decision-making skills.
Last but not the least, this book is a first volume, which is a result of the continued efforts by the author in the subject area of SHARE ASTRO (the role of astrology in decision making in share market trading). The manuscript for Volume 2 of SHARE ASTRO is in preparation and hopefully will be in print in the near future. In fact, the author has the following ambitious plan :
Keep probing in different aspects of astrology and discover its applications in forecasting the movements in shares and the related investment strategies for profitability in the shortest possible time period (a sort of optimal decision-making for share market transactions) during any given trading day, any trading hour, or any minute or its fraction.
